the D

(Formerly Fitzgeralds)

The owners of the Golden Gate Casino, Derek amd Greg Stevens, bought Fitzgeralds in 2011 and renovated the property in 2012, renaming it "the D":  which stands for Derek's nickname (who is 78% owner), "Downtown", and "Detroit" (the Stevens brother's hometown).  The $15 million renovation axed the "luck of the Irish" theme of Fitzgeralds and introduce a more contemporary feel.  The second floor, however, will have a "vintage" Las Vegas aspect.

The D's Grand Opening Party on Friday, October 12, 2012 at what used to be the intersection of S. 3rd and Fremont Streets.

Among the dignitaries to attend the multi-day event:  former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, MLB great Greg Maddux, and Bret Michaels of Poison.

Fitzgeralds used to boast of having the only balcony on the Fremont Street Expereince.  However, the balcony was removed/modified to make way for this two-story escalator which provides instant access from the Fremont Street Experience to the second floor of the D.

Prior to the 2012 Renovation:

Fitzgerald's Hotel and Casino had a "luck of the Irish" theme--including shamrocks and leprechauns.

The Fitz has a variety of gaming:  poker, keno, black jack, Pai Gow, roulette, craps, and a small race and sports book located on the second floor.
