El Cortez

El Cortez--"Where the locals come to play"--was the first major downtown resort for Las Vegas in 1941.  This picture was taken in July 2008; the Chinese buffet was no longer being offered in June, 2009.

A nice entrance way to El Cortez located between Las Vegas Blvd and Sixth Street.

Bugsy Siegal was part-owner of El Cortez at one time; it had been thought the property's location was too far from downtown to be profitable.  El Cortez is one of the few old hotels that hasn't changed its exterior facade for over sixty years.
